With a guardian angel guiding her, Becky G has poured “all the parts of me” into her latest album, Encuentros, a cathartic project that honors her Mexican heritage and the memory of her beloved grandfather, Miguel. This is her second regional Mexican album, following the release of Esquinas in 2023.

Becky reflects on the profound impact of her grandfather’s passing, stating, “Gaining this angel in heaven was for sure the catalyst of this journey, and Encuentros is the continuation of that.” The artwork for Encuentros even pays homage to Miguel by recreating a vintage family photo, highlighting the emotional depth and personal significance of the album.

The Inglewood native describes Encuentros as a darker, more introspective counterpart to Esquinas, saying, “We go a little bit deeper, a little bit more emotional.” The 16-track LP showcases her return to the soulful essence of regional Mexican music, featuring poignant lyrics and a diverse sound that ranges from angsty corridos tumbados and heartfelt ballads like “Como Diablos” and “Ultima Vez,” to upbeat fusions and lively cumbia-pop tracks such as “Besándote” with Oscar Ortiz and “Otro Capitulo.”

“Being Mexicana and my culture is something that’s nourished me and has influenced my artistry and just every extension of me in the real world,” Becky emphasizes, underlining the importance of her roots in shaping her music.

As she prepares to hit the road for her Casa Gomez: Otro Capitulo tour, Becky G is eager to invite fans into her world once more. Kicking off Friday, this 18-city trek serves as a sequel to her 2023 debut headlining tour, Mi Casa, Tu Casa. The intimate feel of her performances, highlighted by a neon pink house set, aims to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of her childhood.

“The concept of it was really for me … I was inviting people into my home. And when I think of my childhood, there was nothing more heartwarming. We share everything: we share our food, we share our drinks, we share our homes,” she shares.
