“With a Stellar Lineup, the Band Aims to Raise Funds and Bring Hope to Communities Impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton”
Dave Matthews Band has announced a special benefit concert, “Soulshine,” to support communities devastated by recent hurricanes Helene and Milton. Scheduled for November 24 at New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden, “Soulshine” promises a powerful evening of music and unity. The benefit will follow the band’s two previously scheduled concerts at the same venue on November 22 and 23.
The lineup is as impressive as the cause, featuring Warren Haynes Band, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, and Goose. Joining them as special guests are acclaimed artists Trey Anastasio, Mavis Staples, Robert Randolph, Trombone Shorty, Joe Russo, Susan Tedeschi, and Derek Trucks. The diverse lineup will draw fans across genres, amplifying the collective effort to support relief efforts in the wake of these destructive storms.
All net proceeds from the concert will go to the “Soulshine” Concert Fund at the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. Funds raised will support Habitat for Humanity’s 2024 Hurricane Recovery fund and other nonprofits actively aiding in recovery across North Carolina and Florida. Dave Matthews Band shared on their website that the event aims to “make a meaningful difference in rebuilding communities most affected by the storms.”
In September, Hurricane Helene caused record-breaking rainfall across Appalachia and western North Carolina, leaving widespread flood damage in its wake. Tragically, the storm has claimed over 200 lives across six states, marking it as the second-deadliest hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland in the past 50 years, following only Hurricane Katrina.
Mere weeks after Helene, Hurricane Milton struck Florida’s Siesta Key as a Category 3 storm, bringing powerful winds, flooding rains, and leaving thousands without power. At least 17 people have lost their lives due to Milton’s devastation.
In addition to “Soulshine,” other benefit concerts have been organized in support of hurricane recovery. Ben Folds, for instance, will host “From Wilmington, with Love” in Wilmington, North Carolina. Together, these events highlight the music community’s dedication to uplifting and aiding those who need it most.
As “Soulshine” promises an unforgettable lineup, it also embodies the spirit of compassion and resilience, helping hurricane-affected communities rebuild and recover.
