Mandy Moore Recounts ‘Harrowing’ Final Moments in Altadena Home Impacted by LA Wildfire

A cherished home nearly lost, a community devastated, and the long road to healing

Mandy Moore is still grieving the near-total loss of her beloved Altadena home, which was severely impacted by the devastating Eaton Fire that tore through her East Los Angeles neighborhood last month.

In an emotional Instagram update on Tuesday, the singer and actress shared details of the terrifying final moments she and her family spent in the house before evacuating, their desperate escape from the flames, and the heartbreaking news they received this week—though the house still stands, nearly all of its contents were destroyed due to the fire’s proximity.

A Home Years in the Making, Lost in an Instant

Moore and her husband, Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith, purchased their Altadena property in 2020, pouring four years of care and dedication into meticulously restoring and remodeling the home. They were just weeks away from completing the final touches when the wildfire struck.

Los Angeles faced one of its most destructive wildfire seasons in January, with the Palisades and Eaton Fires leaving entire neighborhoods in ruins. Thousands of structures were burned, and nearly 30 lives were lost, making it one of the deadliest disasters in LA’s history.

A Harrowing Escape

Moore recounted the terrifying moment her brother-in-law, who lived nearby, called to warn them of the approaching fire. Though they had yet to receive an official evacuation order, the family decided to flee. The next morning, as they anxiously awaited news, neighbors confirmed their worst fear—the house was believed to be gone.

“We held each other, processed the unimaginable,” Moore wrote, reflecting on the shock and grief that followed.

The Long Road to Healing

More than a month after the fire, Moore admits she is still struggling to comprehend the full weight of the loss. She finds herself thinking about her Altadena community, grappling with how to move forward in the wake of such devastation.

“I’m reaching out and asking for help and guidance on how to process this trauma because my brain and heart are so deeply broken,” she wrote.

Despite the heartbreak, Moore holds onto hope. “This place, our home, and the town itself, was our dream,” she shared. “And I hope in time it will feel like that again… just a slightly different one.”
