The rising country star reflects on her journey, thanking fans and mentors as she accepts the prestigious honor.
At the 2024 CMA Awards held on Wednesday night at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, country singer Megan Moroney was named New Artist of the Year, and she could hardly contain her emotions as she accepted the coveted trophy. With a heartfelt speech, Moroney expressed deep gratitude for the fans who have supported her since the start of her career.
“I’m just trying not to cry,” she said, visibly emotional, as she thanked her fans, calling them a huge reason for her success. “The way they show up for me, the way they care about my songs and make signs and t-shirts, and wait outside the venue starting at 3am, it’s really insane to me. This means so much to me.”
Moroney’s success story has been marked by personal connections and milestones. She gave a special shoutout to Kristian Bush, the producer of her albums Lucky and Am I Okay?, who helped shape her musical career. With a smile, she recalled their full-circle journey together: “Thank you for letting me be your intern at the University of Georgia so many years ago.”
Her debut album Lucky was released last year, followed by her sophomore album Am I Okay? in July, which debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Alongside her New Artist win, Moroney performed the lead single from her latest album, “Am I Okay?”, further cementing her place as a breakout star in country music.
In total, Moroney was nominated for three CMA Awards this year, and her win in the New Artist category serves as a testament to her hard work and undeniable talent. With a bright future ahead, Megan Moroney is poised to continue making waves in the country music scene.
