The NFL star praises Trump’s plans to attend the Super Bowl months after the former president declared, “I hate Taylor Swift.”
Travis Kelce is welcoming former President Donald Trump’s plans to attend Super Bowl 59, even as Trump has openly criticized Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
During a press conference on Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end expressed enthusiasm about the former president’s presence at the upcoming championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“That’s awesome. It’s a great honor,” Kelce told reporters, according to multiple media outlets. “I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool.”
However, Kelce’s remarks come just months after Trump made it clear that he is no fan of Swift. In a September post on Truth Social, the former president bluntly stated, “I hate Taylor Swift.”
Trump’s disapproval of the global pop sensation has been well-documented. In an interview with Fox News last year, he criticized Swift’s political leanings, saying she “always endorses a Democrat” and would “probably pay a price for it” in the marketplace.
The former president also compared Swift to Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, praising Brittany as a “big Trump fan” while dismissing Swift.
“I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better if you want to know the truth,” Trump said at the time. “She’s a big Trump fan… not Taylor Swift.”
Brittany Mahomes, co-owner of the Kansas City Current soccer team, previously found herself at the center of controversy when she appeared to support Trump’s 2024 campaign platform in a now-unliked Instagram post. She later engaged with pro-Trump comments on social media, further fueling speculation about her political stance.
Trump’s criticism of Swift intensified after the singer endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in the 2024 election.
Following the presidential debate between Harris and Trump, Swift took to social media to clarify her political stance while also denouncing misinformation involving artificial intelligence.
“I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift wrote.
She continued, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Swift also emphasized the importance of voter registration, particularly for first-time voters, and included links to resources for early voting.
Kelce has remained relatively quiet on political matters, but his support for Trump’s Super Bowl attendance raises eyebrows given his relationship with Swift. As the couple continues to be one of the most talked-about duos in sports and entertainment, Kelce’s words will likely be scrutinized by fans on both sides of the political spectrum.
Regardless of the political drama, Kelce remains focused on the big game. With the Chiefs aiming for another Super Bowl victory, all eyes will be on the star tight end—and perhaps on the former president in the stands as well.
